Hermon Mikael: Juggling College Tennis while working on a Master’s degree.

Many of you remember the story of Hermon Mikael as she made her way to the USA from Sweden to pursue her education in 2019. After being misled to attend a Junior College in New York, she was able to reach out to Eri-internationalsports for a better opportunity. It was then that the networking ability and connection came in handy as Hermon was able to land a scholarship at a great University in South Carolina with her 4 years of eligibility in tact. At Francis Marion University Hermon was very well ahead with her school work and came in as a sophomore.

Her amazing accolades include; two-year letter winner playing in 2020-21 and 2021-22…posted an overall singles record of 17-8 and a doubles record of 15-7…named an ITA Scholar-Athlete…Conference Carolinas Spring Academic All-Conference Team…PBC Team of Academic Distinction in 2021…played No. 1 and No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles in 2021…Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll in 2022. She graduated with honors and with an additional Covid-19 year to play with eligibility she transferred to Davenport University in Michigan where she is working on her Masters degree while still playing competitive Tennis at the NCAA Division 2 level.

Hermon is currently having a great 2023 spring season at Davenport University where she has a winning record in both the singles and doubles category. She has become an important part of the team as she continues to improve her game in one of the very tough conferences in the USA. In one of her game the Eritrean community in Grand Rapids Michigan came to see her play following a church service on a Sunday. Hermon is an inspirational young lady who also engages in business as she empowers many young people. We wish Hermon much continued success as she pursues her marketing and business management degree. Hermon Mikael has a great family including a couple of siblings of which one represents Eritrea in Table Tennis and is one of the top Table Tennis players in Sweden. Her parents are Bruce Mikael and Elsa Yemane and they have done an incredible job of raising a young woman. Salute to this special young lady on the month of International Women’s day.
