Eritrean olympic star Rahel Daniel is showing that she can compete with the big girls around the world. In Spain at the 2023 Elgoibar Juan Muguerza Cross Country 2023 on Januray 6th, she took first place as she led the race, closely followed by world 10000 meters bronze medallist Margaret Kipkemboi Chelimo and Edinah Jebitok from Kenya, Winfred Yavi from Bahrein, Ehlat Mulugeta from Ethiopia and Francine Nyonsaba from Burundi.

Meanwhile a couple of days later at the Campaccio-International Cross Country in Italy, Rahel won the women’s 6.0km contest in first place. It is to be recalled that she was the fifth-place winner in the 10,000m at the World Athletics Championships. This time around she ran 19:10 for first place at Campaccio, beating world 10,000m bronze medallist Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi of Kenya who ran 19:12 and her fellow Kenyan compatriot Mirriam Chebet (19:38). While the celebrations were going on and as the story started to be shared for the race in Spain which took place on January 8th, 2023, the up and coming Eritrean athlete had another huge surprise as she travelled to Italy to compete in the cross country race that took place 2 days later. Rahel will now be getting ready for the 2023 Australian Selection Trials at the 44th World Cross Country Championships to be held in Bathurst, Australia starting in February, next month. We wish Rahel all the best and she has the potential to become one of the greatest athletes in the world.
