Eritrean-Swede Tesfaldet Tekie signs with Go Ahead Eagles of the Dutch Premiere league (Eredivisie).

It has been a couple of months since Eritrean born Tesafldet Tekie left his last club at Fortuna Sittard. There were rumors that he may go back to playing in Sweden for AIK but that did not materialize. Tesfalidet a very clever and intelligent midfielder who could potentially be able to play for Eritrea is a midfielder and despite not producing many goals his ability to play the crisp and smooth passing style of play makes him a wanted player. A couple of teams in Europe were also interested in his services, but he has now signed a one year contract with the struggling club of Go Ahead Eagles of the Eredivisie where Eritreans Alexander Isak and Hennos Asmelash also once made their careers there. In a press conference held today Tesfaldet said:

“I have lived in Sweden for most of my life, but I am proud to have been born in Eritrea. Since my periods at AA Gent and Fortuna Sittard, I have become acquainted with the culture in Belgium and the Netherlands. Both cultures show many similarities with Sweden, as the Dutch language is also reasonably understandable for Scandinavians. I can already understand the Dutch language quite well, speaking is even more difficult.”

It is to be recalled that his Fortuna Sittard trade was done from his original club in Belgium KAA Gent. Tesfaldet has played a game for Sweden’s national team and hopefully can do the same as Henok Goitom and play for Team Eritrea. We shall wait and see as the national team continues to be developed. Meanwhile, his new club seems to be high on him as his experience comes in handy. The club needs him and he was available. The coaches had this to say about him;

“We have recently looked at a back and an attacking reinforcement, the latter profile of which should really be a player who would immediately make us significantly better”, technical manager Paul Bosvelt explains the decision to shift the focus to a new player. player for another line. “When it turned out that an attacker in the category we wanted did not pass, we looked at what our group could still use in terms of profile. With Tesfaldet Tekie we were able to capture an experienced midfielder. He is strong defensively by reading the game well and conquering many balls. In addition, he can also move the game well, even over longer distances. We think he is a player who can help us in the fight for survival.”

Eri-internationalsports wishes Tesfaldet Tekie and his new club all the best going forward. A new club to sheer for and encourage the young Eritrean-Swede who has a lot of talent. Congratulations to Tesfaldet and team Go Ahead Eagles.
