According to many sources and including some of the top sports networks from around the globe, today has been a history making day in many ways for international football/soccer. Newcastle United have agreed to sign Eritrean-Swede Alexander Isak from La liga’s Real sociedad for 70 million pounds including $5m in add-ons according to reliable sources. The stories were confirmed this morning once some major news outlets in Spain reported the story, and that Real Sociedad were looking to replace him. This past weekend Alexander scored a beauty of a goal against Barcelona and was in a great form as he played a great game despite Real Sociedad’s loss to Barca. So many rumors and so many pundits reported that Alexander, would end up with different clubs including Arsenal, Man United, Man city, Liverpool etc… The Swedish national team player whose parents are Eritrean been a key part of Sociedad’s forward line over the past few seasons with 44 goals in 132 matches. Alexander is set to become Newcastle’s fifth signing this summer as the club is ready to compete with the big clubs.
Dissapointment for many fans of Arsenal in Eritrea where the team is very popular, however the young Eritrean-Swede will be followed very closely as the Premier league continues to be the most watched event on Sunday mornings. Alexander started his career at AIK Stockholm where Henok Goitom has been named the head coach this week. While Alexander may be the first player in the British premier league with roots in Eritrea, Henok Goitom his mentor was the first Eritrean to play in Serie A as well as La Liga where he had a great stint with a couple of teams. Another historic fact is that Alexander Isak will also become Newcastle United’s club record signing as he continues to become a top notch international player.
