The Calgary Flames of the NHL announced recently that they have re-signed defenceman Eritrean-Swede Oliver Kylington to a two-year contract with an AAV of $2,500,000. Oliver Kylington, who moved to Canada from Stockholm, Sweden had a breakout season in 2021-22 with nine goals and 22 assists for 31 points in 73 games, all career-highs for the 25-year old. Oliver helped his team by scoring a goal and two assists for three points in his first Stanley Cup Playoffs action in 2022. The left-shot defenceman was drafted by the Flames in the second round (60th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft.

He was sent to the farm club of the Flames in Stockton, California for the first couple of years of his stint. He was a force to be reckoned with in the lower tier league as a defenceman who also was able to produce points. It is to be recalled that Eri-internationalsports spent time with Oliver in Washington D.C during a game vs the Washington Capitals. Oliver spoke of his pride as an Eritrean and expressed his wishes to help develop Eritrean and African hockey players in the future.
